Origin Story
As many entrepreneurs come to learn, your first business isn't always your last business. I started my journey with Boreal Bliss - a self care line of products like facial teas, bath soaks, and luxurious body scrubs, made with plants native to Alberta's boreal forest.
When I look back on this work, I can still feel the joy in sharing mother nature's gifts. Although my intentions for Boreal Bliss were creative, from an Indigenous perspective, it could feel like I was another settler trying to profit off Indigenous ways of life and knowledge. I made the difficult decision to close Boreal Bliss as an act of reconciliation to the Indigenous people.
Ultimately, that decision led me to start ScentSmoke. The Incense Candle was the best selling product, with the greatest profit margin, and I had perfected a ScentSmoke process from hand pouring over 250 candles. I also wanted to shift from a DTC to a wholesale model and open the door for other business owners to add a high value product to their shelves. To date, I've made over a 1,000 of candles for businesses and continue to working on new offerings and creations from our studio in Edmonton, Alberta.
